FAQ

Which devices are supported?

Local Signage is built for Android TV and Google TV devices. For the best experience, use the app on TVs or set-top boxes with a standard remote and access to local storage or USB drives.

How do I add media?

Add photos or videos to your TV's internal storage or a USB drive, then open Local Signage. The Media Sources screen lists folders with supported media - toggle the folders you want, and playback updates immediately.

What permissions does the app request?

The app only asks for media access (images and videos) so it can read your files. Scanning and playback are blocked until permission is granted, and no accounts or cloud access are required.

How do I control playback with the remote?

Use Left/Right (or Media Previous/Next) to jump items, Play/Pause to toggle playback, and Center/Select to open Settings. When no media is available, Center/Select opens Media Sources so you can choose folders.

Can I choose different transitions?

Yes. In Settings you can select transitions: Fade, Push, Slide, Zoom In, Zoom Out, Random, or None.

Can I change the image duration?

Yes. Open Settings → Image Duration and pick from a list of options. If you don't see the duration you need, you can enter a custom one in seconds (subscription required).

Can I change the background color?

Yes. In Settings, choose a background color from the presets, or enter a custom HEX value (subscription required). The change applies immediately during playback.

What does the blur background do?

Blur softly renders the current media behind the main content for a glassy look. You can toggle blur in Settings.

What does adjusting the viewport do?

Viewport insets let you add margins around playback to accommodate bezel/overscan or avoid UI cutoffs on your display. This is useful when edges get clipped or need extra padding. Calibrate them in Settings until the content fits your screen.

What is included in premium?

Premium removes the playback watermark and unlocks custom image durations and custom background colors. You can upgrade from the Settings screen.

Can I rotate media for portrait screens?

Not yet. Rotation for portrait displays is not supported today.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Media stays on-device and the app runs fully offline. USB swaps and folder changes are detected on resume so playlists refresh without an internet connection.

Why is my playlist empty?

It’s empty when permissions are missing, no folders are enabled, or the USB isn’t connected. Grant storage access, enable folders in Media Sources, and reconnect external storage.
